With a 9-10% acceptance rate, they reject anywhere from 18,000-22,000 applicants every year. Also, keep in mind that the Harvard/Yale applicant pool is very competitive. They reject plenty of well qualified students with high GPAs, test scores, and extracurricular activities.

Harvard has 6,715 undergraduates. Since some leave, let's assume that the Freshman class is about 1800.

79% of those admitted attend -- so they accept about 2278 students.

They accept about 9% of those who apply, so they get about 25,316 applicants.

That means they reject about 23,000 applicants per year (undergraduate)
