Most states go buy the year of the vehicle not the engine year so you should still be exempt from emisions testing (smog testing).

You'll have to find out your local laws, but I dont think you'll have to install a smog pump. The Trailduster wouldn't have had one on it anyway, as it was a truck.

The 74 318 may have had a higher horsepower rating than the 79 360, though.

BTW, what condition is the trailduster in? I'm looking for sheet metal for my Ramcharger.

Depends on where you live, laws vary by state.

Most states, as long as it meets the requirements for the model year of your vehicle, if testing is required for your particular year vehicle, it is ok. Many times, if the model year vehicle doesn't require testing, it will not matter what engine you put in it.

CA is the worst, if you're in CA, definitely find out exactly what is and is not allowed, the laws there are very clear and specific on what is and isn't allowed for engine replacements.

Best thing to do is to check out at your state's emissions information website. It should be linked from the state DMV website.

Ge I don't know about smogged??????, But I do know if you don't use the same torque converter/fly wheel that's on the engine you are installing that came with it, you will have some serious vibration. That's part of the balance for that engine.

What do you mean, does it have to be 'smogged' Never even heard the term before.

Smog emissions for the 79 engine will be less than that of the 74.
