Astronomers have indirect evidence that the universe of galaxies extends far beyond the region we can see. But no one knows if the whole universe is infinitely large - large beyond limit.

The universe is a sphere about 6 billion light years in radius.
The farthest galaxies we can see don't exist to-day
The universe may be older than 6 billion years but as a quantum entity it is finite and will some day go out of existence.

Currently the farthest piece of matter from the center is 13.7 billion light years away. Thats how big the matter of the universe is in diameter. But really, the universe, or atleast our universe, is infinite.

If we define "universe" as the total of all that is physical in nature, it is NOT limitless, not infinite.
All evidence points to an approximate spherical shape with diameter that exceeds 13 billion light years and expanding.
Beyond that, everything is conjecture.

How ever large it is now, it is still expanding. If you could go to the end, or rim of it all, you may see nothing visable, but you can bet there is something out there. The Universe has no center, and no edge.

Well our galaxy is approx 100,000,000 light years across, and there's an estimated 100,000,000 galaxies in the universe...so....
186,000*60*60*24*365 = 5,865,696,000,000
(speed of light)(60 sec)(60 mins)(24hrs)(1year) = (1 light year in miles)

1 light year(distance)* 100,000,000 ly =586,569,600,000,000,000,000
(586 quadrillion 569 trillion 600 billon miles)

Now.. that's just OUR universe....multiply THAT times 100,000,000 and you get
58,656,960,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
(58 octillion 656 septillion 960 sextillion miles)

And these are estimates.... but I'd say you're coming damn close to infinity.

Close your eyes. Imagine the world ending tomorrow. Who/What would you miss? The scope of the universe is only as large as the things you hold dear if you lost them tomorrow.

the universe is infinite, galaxies are finite

Actually......... Since it's expanding........... It's not only infinite, it's quite a bit bigger than it was the -first- time you asked this question.
