It's the band inside the motor that the hampsters run on, the wider the power band ,the more hampsters that fit.
That's why bikes with wider power bands are usually faster.

The term "power band" refers to the RPM range at with the engine produces maximum power. If it is running slower or faster than that range it will not produce as much power. In the case of a two stroke engine, that power band can be quite pronounced. Every engine has this attribute, but if varies by engine. A large four stroke for example will have a wide power band, making it easier to control. And two stroke, or a deisel, has a narrow power band, so if you start off too low, and give it lots of gas you'll notice a huge increase in power when the RPM gets high enough.
Hope this helps.

Okay not just dirtbikes but atv's as well have a power band (well only two stroke engines). you hit what is called a power band when getting reved to start a race or just hitting a strait path way. It is when the engine really opens up and the pipe gets into a high speed mode and it really gives you a nice boost!!

Assuming we are talking 2 stroke engines:
It has to do with pulses in the exhaust system. At a certain RPM these exhaust pulses bouncing around in the pipe work with the pulses coming out of the engine and the result is a sudden burst of power known as "getting it on the pipe". Different pipe designs can get the power band raised or lowered, depending on your needs.
My quad REALLY comes alive when it's on the pipe. It's a Honda TRX250R.
With a 4 stroke, it's the RPM where the best power output is attained, which is below the red line.

on atwo stroke dirt bike like a kx cr rm or yz itsa an actual valve in the cylinder of the bike. when the carb is opened to a certain point it opens the valve forcing more air and fuel into the motor giving it a big surge in power, the term powerband is also used when talking about a motors power. the motor may run better at a certain RPM range like say for example a certain motor has the most power between 1200 to 1600 RPM this is sometimes called its powerband

geese.............everyones really reaching for an answer lol. guess ill do the same. as far as i know its has nothing to do with a part. it is a "range of horsepower" which is directly related to engine rpms.
ive never heard of anyone refering 4 stroke bikes to a power band because the overall power is very smooth throughout.
A 2 stroke engine is completely different, it achieves a "power stroke" every rotation of the crankshaft which is twice as much as a 4 stroke. And the exhaust plays a role in its backpressure, as it is unique from the 4 stroke.
>basically if youve rode a 2 stroke its like there is a " sweet spot" where the engine revs to a certain rpm and then takes off. this is what the term is refering to.( 4strokes always have usable power, but 2 strokes need to be revvvved to get required power>power-band).
>>> the 4 strokes> intake/compression/power/exhaust
>i think the point is the 2 stroke engine combines strokes: piston goes up INTAKE/COMPRESSION
piston goes down POWER/EXHAUST
I THINK WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT BECAUSE THE 2 STROKE COMBINES STROKES IT IS LESS EFFICIENT AT LOWER RPMS AND MORE EFFICIENT AT HIGH RPMS>>>>>>this higher efficiency is your powerband, while the 4 stroke has its strokes seperate....... making it relatively efficeint at all ranges(smooth power).

It isn't a thing, it is a range of RPM's (a band) that the motor makes good power. In dork speak if you have a KX125 that has been ported the snot out of, it won't make good power till say 9,000 RPM but it won't sign off till 13,000 RPM. So the "power band is 9,000 RPM to 13,000 RPM.
