In response to another poster, while the artists may not claim their material is new and original, many of their listeners believe it is. I really would prefer it if the artists would actually try to come up with their own material. Using bits and pieces of other people's songs shows a real lack of creativity and talent. If they really want to borrow someone else's material, then what's wrong with doing a remake of the song? There have been many songs that have been remade and many times, the remakes are better than the originals.

First of all, they are not claiming it as an original idea, The same reason Weird Al can parody songs. Also, no one to sue them. Beautiful Girls? The band is no longer there.
