This is related to my earlier question.

My husband used his lawyer daughter who is the same age as I am, 28, to look up information about a man I was interested in seeing after I filed for divorce and moved out of the house.

His daughter came over, and I don't know if he convinced her, or she volunteered, but she used websites that law firms have access to in order to find out private informaiton/financial/divorce settlements of the person I was interested in seeing.

The issue is that his daughter works for her uncle's law firm, so even if she came to our house, used her passcode to the website, and let her father know the info, is it illegal? And if so, even if her uncle were the one handling the divorce, what could really be done about it? He used the informaiton as a weapon to make me come back to him.

I thought it would be illegal because she used a company website for something that was not related to her, or to any case she was working on. She could get fired for this?

It sounds highly unethical at best. Have you discussed this with your lawyer?

More than likely her law firm has a subscription to a website that is available to anyone on the internet.. My attorney used www.intellius.com which is a site which one can access all the records you mentioned above and is open to anyone who is willing to pay.. it's sort of like using the copier at work to copy something for yourself.. copy a page, no one cares.. copy a hundered books, then it becomes an issue. Look at it this way, if it was information that was "bad" enough to keep you from seeing this guy ~ perhaps it was better that you knew... and if you don't want her doing this - just tell her you don't want to know the next time!

No, it's not illegal. She wouldn't have access to the information unless it was information that fell under the "Freedom of Information Act" Law. It's not any different than if he had paid $50 on the internet and done the same search.

The guy you are intersted in isn't a part of the divorce, and if you weren't having a affair with him before the separation, there isn't a problem.

If you were having an affair, then they can use the information, get witnesses, etc.

Why would it be illegal? If you are ashamed of your boyfriends past then you probably shouldn't be seeing him.
