√ can be copied from any word document. I keep a small word document of frequently used symbols and just copy and paste them as I need them.

Hold down alt while typing 251 on the numeric keypad then release the alt key. This should work on any Windows machine. It doesn't work if you don't use the numeric keypad to type the numbers.
