Is there a chance that the government might comply with the demands and also release that person? I know that they don't want a person to die in their custody. I heard that hunger strikes are the most powerful tools for social change. If I ever get arrested I plan on doing this. I will go on a hunger strike and demand a CNN interview or else I won't eat.

Hunger strikes are pure silliness. The person will be declared a ward of the state and force fed or intravenous.
It is easy to talk about, isn't it?
Demand away. Watching too much tv get out into the real world.

Sure there is a chance, but I highly doubt it. You could starve until you pass out, and then once you're hospitalized they will do what they must to save you. Then you will be depicted as a mentally disturbed, psychotic , suicidal, deviant by the many media sources the government has access to. Perhaps a hunger strike held in a public place by more then one person, who haven't been arrested, and have notified every media source in writing or on video what the purpose of the strike was might get more attention. Planning and publicity is needed for any kind of change, are you sure a criminal record and endangering yourself is the best way to acheive your goal? Many of our historical figures have brought about needed change, sometimes by being arrested or being in dangerous positions, but I don't recall hunger strikes......

A prisoner without celebrity status is not able to change anything. He has no rights except for what is dictated by law. But if they are of some importance as Gandhi or other world notable, then the chance of giving in by the officials are good. The law does provide for the force feeding of prisoners by court action to preserve life so there is that method to blunt starvation tactics.

While a hunger strike may be effective at getting a social message out, it is not necessarily going to change the law or get someone freed. Hunger strikes are usually used by political prisoners as a means to bring attention to their plight. Sometimes they DO get attention. Sometimes they do not.

No - stop fantasising. The law is the law and is there for the benefit and protection of society. If you end up in prison for breaking a law you will deserve to be there.

The one law that does need changing is the one that allows the force feeding of hunger strikers. They should be allowed to go the whole way and save the state a heap of money!!!

Don't try that one! You won't succeed. You may get arrested but your voice may not even be heard. As for the hunger strike, what will you gain? Thirst and hunger?

I think Sway is right. Personally, I've never understood why hunger strikes are given any attention. Prisoners should be provided food and water; however, if they choose to refuse it, let them.

Oh hi Tom. To answer your question, first of all, I think it is very noble of you to want to save the world from starvation. But first off, you need to work on your own self and get strong so that ppl will not be able to tip you over when they poke you. This is not meant to be a joke I am serious.

It's only powerful when it comes to liberals. I have no problem with letting that person die.

They will get a court order to force feed you. Governments don't respond well to extortion.
