I'm thinking of getting an iron supplement. I'm 16 and I think I may be deficient because I've had cases recently where I'd feel dizzy after exercising (although not anymore currently) and also I have dark circles under my eyes and I just think I'm not getting enough iron for my age. But I've read that it is easy to overdose on iron. How much % DV can make you overdose?

Too much iron can cause iron plaque to form on your artery walls like cholesterol deposits that can clog up your arteries so if you stick to the recommended iron amounts indicated on the supplement container you will be OK.

A web search for iron + overdose may be of interest.

Take a daily multi-vitamin with Iron, take it as directed and you should be fine. Or better yet work some iron rich foods into your diet. Think green leafy veggies.

I believe the adult dose is 325 mg/day. Follow the directions on the bottle. More is not necessarily better. Better yet. See your doctor and have blood work drawn to see if that is truly the reason. Don't try to diagnose yourself.

I wouldn't take on supplements unless your dr. has run blood tests and told you to take them.
