To the OLD LADY that decided to critisize me instead of answering my question. Yes you are right about my grammer and I also know that you don't know me or my history. Its so easy to judge and put people down. I hope some day no one judges you the way you have judged me. It might not be in the area of grammer and spelling. UNLESS YOU ARE PERFECT, than I should be the first one to appologize...Thank you and I wish you well...

of course it's necessary to teach academics. I meant to ask if you think its necessary to include "social emotional" education along with academics ? I feel like there is a need to move forward in the social emotional area. Schools are still using the same discipline techniques like time out, suspention and detention. I'm sure this stops the bad behavior teporarily, but it doesn't teach children to identify the problem and then explore altrnatives. For example, a child contantly gets up out of his seat and talks while teacher is lecturing. Most teachers don't tolerate this kind of behavior. The child is ordered to pull a colored card (popular I immagine all over the state) and looses a recess. Wouldn't it be better if the teacher stated how she feels ? For example, "Justin, when you get out of your chair, it distacts me when I'm trying to lecture. What can I do to help you to stay seated ? And work out a better solution by getting the child involved in the process.

I think its very much necessary. Half of what we do is teaching children how to act in various situations, as well as the academics. Our school is very supportive in this area and often offers opportunities for professional development in these areas.

Old Lady-Practice what you preach.

"The guy who is head honcho is a school is the principal."

Don't you mean the guy (or gal, which is now more common in elementary schools) who is head honcho "in" a school is the principal? Usually the principal is in the school, not the school its self.

"Do you think it's necessary to teach academics."

Of course this sentence should end with a question mark, rather than a period. As my first graders can tell you, this is a question not a statement.

Lets hope you are not teaching. You obviously do not have the basic knowledge or skills to even teach a first grade class. I also feel its quite obvious that you have no heart for children or their best interest.

I am a first grade teacher and it is necessary to teach academics. If we don't children won't learn what they need to. I teach phonics, blending, reading, writing, math and everything else in my room. It is also an emotional/social job as well. Kids are not used to being away from home and having to share. Now we are teaching them everything including how to get along with others.

You are a good example of why it is necessary to teach academics. Especially spelling and grammar.
Your opening line should have read
If you're a primary teacher....
The guy who is head honcho is a school is the principal
And your closing line should have read
Do you think it's necessary to teach academics.
But this is just spam anyway, so it doesn't matter - certainly you have proven, in four short sentences, that you aren't the one to do it.
