We sometimes forget that looks fade and the human body changes. Isnt it all about the heart and personality?? Or are you a person that has to have a Trophy on your shoulders at all times

I take it that you aren't labeled in the first category.

No offense. It's just that normally the people who aren't classified by people as being pretty are the ones who tend to bring up the issue of being classified that way.

Personally, I don't care if someone thinks a girl is physically pretty or not, if she has nothing more to her than looks or is mean and obnoxious, then she isn't attractive to me.

Many people are superficial. Like you said looks fade and I add to that ; the core of the person is left.

It should be about the heart, you are right. We are marketed and brainwashed to think prettier is better. Most magazines have photoshopped and airbrushed celebs and models. These people look at bad as we do in the morning! Some people aren't intelligent or mature enough to realize most people don't look like that.

I judge people on how they treat me and those I love.

Well...

this is an interesting question.

I don't judge by looks anymore. I used to be so critical, but now that I've had the same happen to me, I can't bring myself to label someone pretty or ugly.

For myself it's another matter entirely. I look at myself in the mirror I see a very beautiful person, but when I get to school around size 2, blonde-haired, blue-eyed girls my age, that talk about how fat and ugly they are, all I can see are my small eyes, my fat stomach, my size 13 jeans, my not-so-perfect complexion, my weird dyed hair, my uglyness.

I don't know, to be honest. Here are some pics of me..think what you will.

Old pics, and my hair is black now.

OK, from a biologist's standpoint, a lot of attraction has to do with our innate desire to mate with someone who will give us successful offspring. So pretty people are more sexually appealing. The general thinking is that somebody who is attractive will give us attractive offspring, who will also have more success at attracting mates, and so on and so forth.
It's sheer instinct, regardless of whether you're actually going to be having children with that person (whether because of gender, use of birth control, etc.)

Because the media focuses on looks, so, since most people can't think for themselves, they follow the media.

Appearance is what people first see, and most of these people seem to think it's the most important-only because it's the most obvious.

People are very self-absorbed when it comes to appearance.

To hide our own insecurities, we label people as ugly. To fit into a group, we adjust to their concept of beauty. Sounds simple, but it could be more complicated.

It should be about what is in the heart, but most of us make a first impression on what we see. Sad, but true.
