For me it would depend on WHY the person cannot be there! Having a commitment encompasses many possibilities. Is the person out of town? In town but busy? What types of commitments are you referring to? Is the other partner extremely needy? Do they wish attention simply for its own sake or to prove the other person loves them? It's a tough question to answer without additional facts!

I would become self sufficient and learn to deal with things on my own (I am not saying you don't/aren't), because I have been in a relationship that was one sided(for different reasons) and had to learn that the only person I could count on was ME~I found some good friends and made them GREAT friends, and became great friends to them, they helped to soften the blow~and these are SINGLE friends, that don't have to worry about "checking with the spouse" for stuff, so we could have a girls night out, and not worry about the men!!!!

You either deal or you don't. Just think, if you are apart from one another, instead of up under one another all the time, it gives you a chance to miss each other. You make yourself busy doing something constructive. Something so that you aren't obsessing about your significant other not being there. Read, clean, organize, go to the gym, go for walks, watch movies...

The first thing that needs to happen is for the parties involved to decide if there is a future there. Love is the acceptance and accomodation of anothers needs, and if one of those parties is not fulfilling the others needs unconditionally, it is better to make a clean break.

Well if he loved me he would be there, unless he's incarcerated or in some kind of institution that would keep him from being with me. Anything else is just an excuse.

Bottom line..If that person really loves you they will be there for you and not continually fail you....Life passes so quickly...Don't waste your time on someone who doesn't care...Anyone can say I love you...those are easy words to say...But when that person doesn't back up their words with action....it means squat.

i'm in a long distance relationship, it is really hard but when you both want it to work out then it is possible, you just have to be able to give some sacrifices from time to time...its always worth it when you see them again

you can only do so much and if they still need more help you must let them go a little at a time easy as not to hurt them but let them know they can be fine

Leave, I deserve better than that. If I'm gonna be with someone, I don't settle for being their #2

If I cannot rely on my partner, I start to feel alone in that relationship, and that is not good.
