Did you go alone or with friends? Which and how many countries did you visit; what sights did you see? Did you stay at hostels? How regularly did you eat out? I am especially interested in the experiences of women who backpacked through, but men are welcome to answer, too. :) Thanks.

I often travel in Europe, using hostels but going to use single rooms and cheaper hotels more and more.
I budget € 100 ($135) per day for just sightseeing, € 200 ($270) if I go to a place like London or Paris, plus travel cost.

I never cook when I am traveling, so I always eat out, (there have been special days in which I joined some others in the Hostel making a meal together.)
I do not go to pubs often, but in Ireland I had a whiskey in a pub most nights, in France I have a drink at dinner time.
People who have many drinks each night do spend a lot more.

I have recently worked out that I did see 23 countries (world wide) so far, but on each trip I did visit no more than 5 countries at most. And that was a 5 weeks trip.
I have by now seen most of the famous sights in most European countries, but still have a few to go to, and I will go back to a few places I have been.

By the way, do not watch Hostel, you also would not watch a horror movie about a plain crash to learn what flying is like.

If you plan ahead you really do not have to "backpack" thru Europe. I got maps of different places and found hotels that was in the center of the town so I can walk to all the sights I wanted to see. If you go to Rome paying with Euros instead of credit card was best at the hotels. I hate out at least 3x a day...Plan as much as you can from home.

NO!! I went to Europe for a month and took $2000. and that i ran out of money. in case you do no longer prefer to hold a brilliant sort of money on you, be sure you have a debit or mastercard which will artwork out of the country. additionally, even however you think of you would be ingesting affordably, in some worldwide places ie: England, France, nutrients is amazingly costly. i might deliver better than $2000.00, extra suited to have better than much less! have a stable holiday

Be careful with hostels have you seen the movie called Hostel? Its true in Slovakia and the types. But I think you can carry about 6000$ for a basic trip with fun. I have traveled once but not too much backpacking.... I wanted comfort with minimum benefits... try that.... go through a good travel agent and be safe
