If you're leaving it in the keyhole on the inside of the house, it'd be safer because if someone has copied your key they wouldnt be able to insert the key into the keyhole from the outside.
But obviously don't leave the key in the keyhole from the outside because anyone could just turn the key and enter the house

it is safer for me (safer meaning finding the key the next time I want it) leaving the key in the keyhole at all times. Where would I look for it otherwise....I have no idea.

Dear,

Of course is safer to leave the key in the key hole in few manner. This will safe the door from been open.

First. lock the door. Turn the key so that it stuck and any other object comes in will not be able to push out the key. This means, any false key trying to open the door will not be able to comes into the hole, because there a key in it.

I don't have that problem since I don't even have a key for my door. I leave my doors and windows open all night and even when I am gone from home unless rain is expected or the weather is cold. I live way out in the country on a little dirt road with no traffic. I would hate to live in a place where everything had to be locked up all the time.

You need to answer this question yourself BECAUSE only you can see whether the key can be pushed out of the lock and under the door - if there is space under the door, then for SURE take the key out; but if there's no space under the door, the key can't be turned inside the lock, and no other key can be shoved in to open the door!!

Well you could test out your question and leave the
key in the keyhole overnight and the next night take
it out.

I don't know, I don't even know where the key to my house is.
I have lived here for 3 years and never locked the door.

but I do wonder why someone would live in the fear that someone might come into their house without permission.

It seems from your questions that you have had a bad experience?
I would say take it out, and get some extra locks that attach to the door and require locking from the inside.
