Akinwale Arobieke he was well known as a "bogeyman".
Here's a picture of him:

Some people believe that the "candyman" that Clive Barker wrote about in the movies is actually based on a real person. His name is Akinwale Arobieke and he is also known as Purple Aki. While he doesn't show up after you chant his name five times in front of a mirror, for a long time people thought he was an urban legend.

Purple Aki has served time in prison for multiple accounts of harassment and even scared one witness so much that they entered the witness protection program because of his threats.

While Clive Barker has not said that he based Candyman on Akinwale Arobieke, it does make sense. This happened in Liverpool and Barker is originally from Liverpool. Plus, Akinwale Arobieke does look alot like Candyman.

The Candy Man. Wow. Well it's said to believe that if you watch the movie and you get scared you'll have to go to the bathroom. Some people(for some wierd reason) say 'candyman' five times in the mirror. for a split second they see him. But they think it is over. They turn around and they see a bag of candy. You can't touch it or feel it. You are the only one to see it. For five seconds it stays. then it goes away forever. But honestly i haven't seen the movie so I wouldn't know.

At one point in our verbal history, the "Candy Man" was a synonym for a drug (heroin) dealer. You want horror, that kind of candy is real, not movie, horror.
