Generally speaking, people pick the answers that agree with their own philosophy. Many on this forum use this site just to get some validation, not necessarily to learn something.

For the most part, yes you are. Some people though pick the option that lets voters decide, even the same day they post the question. Don't see it very often, but it can be done. This is really just an opinion forum anyway, let's not pretend it isn't.

I disagree. Some here do choose best answer because it agrees with the beliefs the questioner held. I have had my answer voted best even though the person didn't agree with my beliefs because they felt it was well worded and thought out.
I have chosen Best to my questions because they made me think and do research. The facts and links they provided weren't always open minded, but at least they were thought out and weren't filled with hate. Same for when things go to voting. Sometimes I vote for my answer, sometimes for someone else.
I think you statement is truer for the Politics area more than others but try going thru some of the q's from people in here who are interested in expanding their knowledge base vs spewing anger.

In my "opinion" all this forum is about is opinions so for best answer of course I'll choose an opinion that is similar but maybe clarifies for me my own opinion. Left to others, they would choose based on their opinions as well. Sad? I don't see why. If I want facts I'll contact a recognized expert or the Encyclopedia. But of course that is just my opinion.

No, I pick the best answer based on content. Even if it is a different view than I hold. You have a lot better chance of getting a best answer from me if your answer is well thought out, backed up with links, and not insulting. That goes for those who do agree with me as well. How do you choose?

Questions on this forum aren't questions in the sense of what is the answer, but more to stimulate discussion.
Best answers, generally go to the ones who best get the point of what is being asked.

bro, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. once you answer, you are just a spectator, unless the questioner declines to choose for themselves.
facts in politics? no such thing. if you want facts, post a sports or science or math question. politics is all gray areas, purely subjective.
penelope, you sooooo modest.

Best answer to me is the most logical and presented the best. Normally, I agree with the answer, but frequently

I only pick best answer, because it is informative for me. I don't ask that many questions on here. Some answers are way off sometimes, that don't make sense.
