We purchased something on Ebay, made to order, one of the snap fasteners wasn't fitted. We have some metal things for helping to fit them, but no instructions.
I realize it is the sellers responsibility, but if I can avoid sending it back, just to have that fitted, and they can send the white ring which attaches to hold the snap fastener in place, it can save time and money.
I have notified the seller.

With a hammer,

You have an inner and outer piece for each half of the snap fastener.

You put one piece on the inside, and one piece on the outside (one piece must poke through the cloth), and then you use the "metal things for helping to fit them", and hammer one of the metal things which crimps the inner and outer parts together, while supporting the part you're not hammering.

I hope this helps, it's a bit hard to describe in words, especially without seeing the metal helper things.

you need to get a snap setter (snap/grommet setter) it is a metal tube like thing with a metal concave "anvil" they can be purchased in most craft/hobby stores or sewing stores for around 6 to 12 dollars. They also carry them at Tandy leather but they tend to be a bit more expensive there. They have instructions with them to tell you and show you how to set a snap

edit: snap fasteners can also be purchased at any of the stores listed above, they come in all sizes, colors, and styles
