3 Years ago I got sick and had to have a Ct Scan and an mri done they told me they saw cystic on my ovaries and said I had pcos but they didn’t say anything else to me about it (I didn’t know what it was) like go to the doctor so I didn’t think that it was that big of a deal so about a year later I had went the guyno and had my first pap smear when I was leaving they gave me a number to call a week later to get my results. I called it and it was a machine and all it said was my results were abnormal I didn’t think it was serious because My doctor didn’t call me so I left it alone that was like a 2years ago and I just got another one done at plan parenthood and they sent me a letter in the mail that said my test came back normal so I don’t know what this means? I know I have pcos still because I get hair in odd places and my period was abnormal I am on birth control right now so it is regular and my hair growth isn’t as bad now I am 20 and want kid why were my test like that?

Abnormal pap smears happen for lots of reasons. Did you have sex the night before?? That effects a pap. Were you on any medications for yeast infection or UTI? That can effect it. I had taken Monistat to clear up a yeast infection and it caused an abnormal results. However most abnormal results are caused by HPV-Human Papillomavirus. It's the most common form of STDs. There are 30 different kinds of the virus but only 10 are known to cause cervical cancer. If you're under 26 you can get the vaccine. Then there is always the human error in the lab. The lab techs read so many slides that they make lots of mistakes! But, PCOS has nothing to do with abnormal pap results. Good luck!

Abnormal paps can come about for a variety of reasons. You can have an infection, have had sex the day before, have a blood contaminated sample or you can have a serious problem. Most abnormal paps come with a recommendation to have another done in 3-6 months to insure that the problem is resolved. Unfortunately, we have to be our own advocate in the health management field. Ask for a hard copy of any test you have so that you can see what is really being said. I had a coworker who was not notified of an abnormal result and is now dead from cervical cancer. It looks like you have been lucky and escaped the bullet. But be smart from now on. Get those hard copies of any test you have and since you already have some female problems, don't be careless about having your pap done annually. Your life can depend on it.
