I have a roomate who constantly talks to himself, and i brought it up too him but he cant resist, in fact he talks to himself in his sleep! What types of disorders consist of this?

Whatever "problem" he may or may not have cannot be diagnosed based on one "symptom", especially not on the internet. Anyway, talking in your sleep and talking to yourself when awake are completely unrelated.

I wouldn't call it a disorder, exactly. It's probably more of a habit. Some people feel the need to talk to themselves as a form of reassurance or guidance in completing a task. I do it every day, and thus far, I've managed to stay out of the funny farm. The monologue or solilloquy was used in many of Shakespeare's plays; e.g. "Hamlet", "To be or not to be, etc....."

Talking to one's self is neither a disorder in and of itself, nor is it a symptom of any other disorder.

If you have schizophrenia you may appear to be talking to yourself. although i doubt that is what he has. Perhaps he is just a hyperactive thinker who is unaware of his behavior.
