Discovery is accidental, while invention is creativity fostered by the need to improve life. I would say invention is more difficult because it involves research, trial and error, and then trying to market the product or special service once the idea is materialized. An invention also has to be copyrighted or trademarked. So there is considerably more involved in an invention as opposed to a discovery.

Discovering something means finding some already existing thing whereas Inventing means creating something. Inventing is more difficult than discovering because one has to put in hardwork, be patient and be focussed when inventing. All inventions from steam engine to modern day techno gadgets are examples to justify this.

Inventing is more difficult and challenging.
Discovery is what u can call as mere good observation....
eg. man discovered fire, wheels... all these was just by chance.... there were no special efforts taken for discovering it.. it was rather a good observation.
But think of efforts put down by edison for inventing light.... its known fact that he gave around 10,000 experimental trials before inventing light... so u can understand the amount of effort he took n sleepless nights he went through....
so its clear....

It is not only difficult, but also impossible, to discover or invent something. It is only serendipity that makes it easier. In fact, human life is like that.

india has been poor on both counts
both involve efforts which is missing in indian culture
pure sciences were some what popular in bengal in last century . but invention normaly involves team efforts which is regretfully absent in indian ethos
finally it depends what culture community follows

Quote by ANDRE GIDE. "Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to loose sight of the shore."
PERHAPS DUE TO : lack of courage in self; lack of courage in self to loose self; and lack of courage in the self, to loose the sight of the shore of his own self; by his self.
The meaning of SHORE being; perhaps; those area and knowledge of self; which we know as comforts ; and about which we gain sense and feel of enjoyment in self; by the self
We are ever gaining comforts from those areas and knowledge of self, for which we perform work, actions and activities of self. These comforts bind us to them selves.
Quote by RALPH WALDO EMERSON
" IF A MAN OWNS LAND THE LAND OWNS HIM"
As a result we do not have the courage to perform that work, and those actions, and activities of self for which we are not very sure of gaining those comforts which we had experienced and known earlier as our true comforts.
Our knowledge of comforts is wrong; for we associate with money, material goods, machines and kindness of other people towards our selves only.
True comforts instead, are all those areas and knowledge of self which can help the self gain those comforts of life, by which the self can become able to work hard by his self; for motivating and driving his self; to not only work hard for earning money, material goods, machines, and kindness but also for debonding and deattaching his self from the sense and feel of comfort of them in his self .
Perhaps we not only lack courage; but also require that which can give us freedom of bondages and attachments of self from the self and from the comforts of self..
