It's not defending the country. It just isn't. That's what the military is doing. The immigration debate should be about what is good for America. And frankly, trying to remove millions of people from the U.S. economy is just foolish.
Now, it might not be true that all people against illegal immigration are racist, but there are way too many for you to stand out in a productive way. So, I'll make you a deal. Post a strong, passionate reason that it helps Americans to stop immigration or to deport all those already in America, and I'll start to consider other options.
Finally, I know there are racists in the pro-immigrant movement also, but they are kept a lot more under wraps than the anti-immigrant folk. So, that makes it all the more important not simply to say that you are not racist, but to prove it.

No, not only Hispanics break American law, by coming here illegally. Other folks from Nations do as well, HOWEVER, the majority is Hispanic 95%, to other countries people, 5%. Hispanics commit the most crime against the USA, and commit more murders of US citizens.
Reyes, a Hispanic illegal recently murdered a Texas sophmore, Melanie Goodwin. Let's not forget her, and so many others who have died at the hands of illegals. Come on Texas policemen, and Troopers! Get that sucker, Reyes, an illegal who has committed so many crimes, and was never deported BEFORE Melanie was set afire, and murdered, when he should have been!!

In debate this is called changing focus of the argument. If you can not win the debate, ie illegal immigration is a major problem for all parties and we have to better manage this issue, on the facts, change the subject. And there is no better distraction then using race.
Look at the immigration history here. People did not just waltz through Ellis Island. There was a formal process, many immigrants were rejected, quarantined, etc. There were deportations, and people at that time were saying exactly the same things being said now.
Actually the sentiments against illegal immigration were very harsh. Look at the very derogatory term WOP, it meant Without Papers. So no in the past there was not this open boarders, all is great mentality. And we can not go back in time, we have to deal with the reality today.
Look at Chinese immigrants in the west. They were granted no rights and treated harshly.
Write your congressman and senator, let them know where you stand.
What I find so odd, is that illegal immigration is hurting legal immigrants who go through the process and wait in line. How is that fair? Also having illegal immigration is bad for the immigrants in the long run. CNN did a story on some Mexican boarder towns. Pure h e 11 on earth. Total chaos, lawlessness, people are abused, robbed, assaulted, gangs are running everything, etc.
Our lack of immigration controls are directly responsible for creating all this misery and suffering. So how is that not racist?

It's just that hispanics come over in more dramatic numbers so there is more attention given to them on this issue. Lots of people migrate to the US and lots of people do it illegally. It's wrong for anyone to enter a country illegally, those laws are set in place for many reasons, most importantly, for health and security reasons. It should have nothing to do with race. The real problem is people in large numbers coming into this country unchecked. I say, make it easier for them to come here, not harder. It's a big country, there's plenty of room. I'm not saying there should be no requirements to get in, but as long as they can speak at least some conversational English, they have a basic unserstanding of our laws, pass a health screen and can prove that they can hold a job and all that, let them come.

Because so many of the people on the other side, the anti illegal group (these names are ridiculous) focus on MEXICANS and talk about how MEXICANS will destroy this country and how sealing off the border with MEXICO will stop illegal immigration. When racial slurs are used against illegal aliens they are usually derogatory against MEXICANS.
You're argument isn't with the "pro-illegals", it's with some on the "anti-illegals" side who are making you look bad.

Yes, you are correct. Illegal immigration to the U.S. shouldn't be seen as a racial issue. But the majority of illegal immigrants are Hispanics from Mexico & Central America. And they know that if they call White Americans racist, that most of them will shut up. So that's why they call people who are against illegal immigration racists. It's their only defense. The groups that support illegal immigrants are the real racists. They have La Raza, MECHA, & Mexica-movement. All of those groups are racist against whites.

First, don't say "pro-illegal". That's a strategic rhetoric tactic, and obviously does nothing to describe the views with which you disagree. I oppose mass deportation, for example, not because I'm "pro-illegal," but because it's ridiculously unrealistic.
Second, most "anti-illegal" people who bother complaining about it make it out to be a Hispanic issue, which puts them at risk for sounding racist or bigoted.
Third, people aren't labeled racist each time someone speaks against illegal immigration. That's an all-or-nothing generalization. It just tends to happen when people are ignorant in their claims against illegal immigrants or immigration.

NO! But they are the majority. You don't have to defend illegals. Quote the word " illegal"! That's like defending a criminal knowing that he or she did wrong. The illegal immigration problem is NOT a racism issue.

The worst incursion of illegals started in 1492.
A lot of the people protesting illegals are targeting Mexicans and other Hispanics. But there are lots of asians and europeans too, they just aren't getting the same amount of anger, and that seems to be racial.
I like the argument about the d___d lazy Mexicans coming here and taking all the jobs.
