I like Trina. Don't get me wrong... Katrina IS a pretty name, but for many people the name might still be too closely tied to the hurricane disaster. Katrina actually means "pure" ...it's sad that a beautiful name like that can be related to such a horrible and devastating event.

If you like, Katrina is another form of Catherine.
Other similar names are Katerina/Katarina, Katina, Katia.

If you're really set on Katrina then go with it, but I'm sure (as opinionated as some people can be) someone will eventually question you about the hurricane everyone knows as Katrina.

Katrina Marie is really pretty. I love Trina as a nickname, too. My middle name is Katherine and if it were my first name, I would have used Trina.

I like Trina. Katrina might not be a good name to use considering the hurricane just happened within the last copule of years.

I would just make the FULL name "Trina" instead. Since the hurricane two years ago, the name Katrina has become immensely unpopular.

Still too tied to the natural disaster and ensuing governmental/financial scandal for my taste. It's not even "Hurricane Katrina," anymore. You just say the name Katrina, and people assume you're talking about victims, displacement and government screw-ups. Not to mention the new K-Ville television series meant to draw attention to the residents' ongoing struggle to rebuild and take back their city.

Definitely not one I could in good conscience use for my child at the moment. You might, however, consider Catriona as an alternative. The "o" can be slightly pronounced, if desired, and therefore said ka-TREE-o-na ... helping separate it a bit from the unfortunate hurricane association.

Hope that helps!

It's a very nice name my cousin name was Katrina and she was a very loving person.

Yes I understand everything about Hurricane Katrina but I choose to remember the positive about the name Katrina.

Good luck whether you choose that name or not.

Honestly, the name Katrina makes me think of that devastating hurricane which hit Louisiana a few years ago. That is the only thing I think of when I hear that name. Marie is pretty though. Sorry.
