So my parents finally allowed me to get an xbox 360 and i've been reading up about it on the internet so i'll be prepared as to which version to buy and such when go to buy it. Trouble is, i've been reading that the xbox 360 has had many different problems because of overheating and scratched discs etc. Now i'm a bit scared of buying one cuz i dont want to have to invest more money than the actual cost of the system and games in order to repair the system itself. so my questions are:

Do all the xbox 360 systems out there (all versions) still have the same amount of problems as before or has microsoft made sure that the systems are atleast a bit more resistant to encountering such problems like overheating?

Is the xbox 360 elite any better than the core or pro system when it comes to durability and resistance to heat?

Should i buy a cooling fan for my xbox 360 regardless of where i plan to put it?

any input would be much appreciated

But I would say get the pro, its the best value but is still overheats. And the fan issue I would say just get a regular fan something like this: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10083217&catid=
It has its own power supply so no void of warranty. Its probably not that good tho cuz it doesn't suck out the hot air, it would ony blow cold air on the outside of the console, but it cant hurt. Also, like the post says in early 08 the newer cooler running GPU's should come out so u might wanna wait. But I am like you wondering if i should buy or not, and I'm thinking u could just buy it now and if MS develops something to keep it cooler I guess you could send it in after it breaks and they would give you the better system but Im not too sure about that

All 360 have the potential to get the ring of death. It's simply that MS doesn't know what causes it, and if MS doesn't know what's causing it, how exactly is MS going to fix it.

One potential blame is the overheating, so the new premium with HDMI has a new heat, which is supposed to do a better job of cooling the system down. The Elite also seems to have fewer problems, but that's because MS is using parts that have been better tested.

The Elite is just the same as the core/premium except for the HDMI output and bigger hard drive. Otherwise, it's just the same, so it can have the same problems as the core/premium. The premium with HDMI output has a new heat as I said earlier.

Don't bother with the cooling fan because 1. it's a waste of money. 2. it can void your warranty. 3. it's just a lame way for 3rd party companies to try to cash in on people's fear. 4. it might do more harm than good. Cooling fans don't run on their own power, so they need to siphon the electricity from the 360, which causes the 360 to work even harder, thus producing more heat.

If you want to prevent the ring of death, there are a few things that you can do. 1. put the 360 in a wide open area where it can get plenty of air. 2. don't put it inside a cabinet and close the doors. 3. don't put it near a heat source, such as sunlight, radiator, on top of a cable box, etc.

There are 2 extensive blunders that ensue that could injury Xbox 360s, E74 blunders and the crimson Ring Of dying. the two a sort of are below the Xbox 360s guarantee which lasts 2 years after the equipment grow to be bought. After 2 years, if the console dies, you're able to desire to purchase a sparkling one. in case you're paying for a used one that is over a pair of years previous, BE AFRAID. never console has themes, yet while it is that previous, i does not pay extra advantageous than $50 for the element. in case you're paying for a sparkling one, observe that there is a guaranty that lasts 2 years, yet my first 360 died 2 years and a month after i bought the equipment. No comic tale. i complete up paying for a sparkling one, yet i grow to be fairly pissed. in case you're confident that the 360 isn't the wonderful console for you, then do not forget approximately to check out the PS3. the two structures have superb exclusives, yet one has a loose on line, and the different has a extra stronger on line. One hardly breaks, and the different seems to interrupt a lot. Weigh the pros and cons of the two structures and locate which one is powerful for you. EDIT: Microsoft won't deliver you a sparkling 360 in case you deliver yours in. they are going to deliver you a refurbished one. And Xbox 360s nevertheless do get crimson rings. There wasn't some magic therapy to the situation. despite in case you maintain the 360 in suited undertaking, it may nevertheless finally get those themes. The 360s situation is over heating, and that could nevertheless take place in the main suitable of situations, basically from utilising your console too a lot.
