The world's renowned chefs are mostly men. Why would women over the past 40 years shun participation in this male-dominated field?

Ok...are you free tomorrow night? I will cook you up a feast, and I promise you that I won't have shark tail soup on the menu.

Well, of course women do cook well. but I agree with you to some extent that the women of this era doesn't take so much of interest in cooking. That is because they believe not cooking is a sign of being mod and wealthy. they prefer more of a junk food, or sometimes no food at all.

Chefs are mostly men, is correct because its really not possible for women to get out to the kitchen and cook for many many consumers. Love and heart are the most essential ingredients for a woman to be a good cook.

I'm an outstanding cook, said by everyone around. I can cook many many dishes but I certainly would never like to be a chef because I like to serve my family, friends and near ones only. Thats a tiring job too. Spending many hours in the kitchen is not wise because the skin of a woman is far sensitive than man's so they can't stand with the heat that longer.

Many women still cook well- they just aren't in the public view (restaurants, tv,...). Have you seen Hell's Kitchen? many of those contestants were women who were chefs, cooks, etc. Granted, a man did win the competition. Anyone can be a good cook if they put the practice and time into it, maybe women are busy with other hobbies these days: working out, sports, or business careers...

I think I'll make a Shark Attack after reading that question!

Shark Attack

2 cups ice cubes
1/4 cup lemon slices
1/4 cup pineapple chunks
1/4 cup tequila
1/4 cup Triple Sec
1/2 cup orange juice
1/4 cup pineapple juice
1/4 cup high alcohol content rum (recommended: Bacardi 151)
Splash grenadine
1/4 cup maraschino cherries, plus more for garnish

In a pitcher, add all the ingredients and stir to combine. Garnish with maraschino cherries, if using. Pour into rocks glasses, garnish with maraschino cherries and serve.

I love to cook and am pretty good at it as well.
All meals are home-cooked and healthy and I love looking around for new recipies for meals that my family will enjoy.
Seeing my hubby enjoying the meals I make and going back for seconds makes me feel as though I've done a job well done. And I make an awesome home-made tiramisu as well.
Am good at sewing as well, I mend the family's clothes regularly and at the moment am restoring a lounge chair.
As for being a chef, that's not what I want to do with my life as far as a career goes.

In a traditional sense, women COOKED...they were not chefs. They fed their families with two things in mind...economics and a healthy balance. Being a chef is a completely different kettle of fish. Perhaps women shied away because it was, originally, seen as an expected, traditional role.

A majority of the greatest chefs in the world have historically been men. That's not just from the last 50 years.

I cook very well, thank you very much. I don't want to be a chef because I'm not into frou-frou cooking. That, and I don't have the temperament to be a chef. I worked in a hotel, and every chef we had was a b*tchy primadonna. By the way, love your hat Sharky-Boy.

I know a guy that went to culinary school, and is a GREAT cook, but decided against becoming a chef because he wanted a family life. As Juniper said, the hours are ridiculous, and not very conducive to raising children.

Chefs work about 70 hours or more a week. Did it occur to you that maybe women not only are less into status then men, but they also don't often choose careers so totally incompatible with parenting? You can't often be a parttime chef. This has nothing to do with cooking well or not well.
