This is a question my daughter asked. She doesn't like Mr. Bush, nor do I. I have my own theories, but I thought that in the spirit of fairness, those who DO support our President should answer the question.

So please give me your reasons and if you could, do so without anger or bitterness. A 12 year old will be reading your answers.

Thanks!

American Patriot: I do not hate Mr. Bush. By not liking him, I meant that I don't like his policies or much of what he's done in his time in office. Sorry if there was some confusion.

M: As a matter of fact, I spend a lot of time overseas--many months out of the year. I do feel compelled to defend America and often to EXPLAIN why America does the sorts of things it does. For much of the world, what we do is incomprehensible. But I generally don't say much about Mr. Bush overseas. I respect him and his office, but that doesn't mean I feel the need to defend his policies to outsiders. If he is being bad-mouthed unfairly, I say so. But if he is being legitimately criticized, I have no desire to defend him.

While I do not support all of his policies or agree with all of his decisions, he is still the President of the United States, and therefore I respect his authority as such.

The same can be said of President Bill Clinton - I did not support many of his policies or decisions, but he was the President of the United States, and I always respected him for that reason.

I support Bush because, well he didn't earn a purple heart (and throw it at the White House) for shoting himself in the foot. He also doesn't tell me that I should drive an "fuel efficent car" and use zero electricity to save the Earth and then jump onto his private jet.

No, I support Bush because he is the president of the US, the best country its called pride. I felt the same about Clinton. Did Clinton do stuff that I disagreed with, definetely. I'd tell Bush I'm not to crazy about No Child Left Behind. But he still holds the highest office in US politics. So what if he sucks at public speaking? Carter was a "goober" and Regan was an actor! They did some good stuff while in office (except some of Carter foreign policies). Its all a matter of pride, about being an American, and Bush represents America. Thus he represents me. And if I was asked by some foreigners if I support Bush, I'd say "heck yea" although, thats toning it down for the kid. Why? Because he's American.

If you were in France or Germany and saw a fellow American being harassed by foreigners about being American (not getting to a violent point though), would you get in there an back your fellow American up or would you keep walking and pretend not to be American? I would back that person up.

Because some people find it easier to accepts any information fed to them rather than think about it. A person should never accept and act others words without:

1. Think about what you think about the issue.

2. If you are not knowledgeable then check many sources of information and then judge for yourself.

3. In a political position you should always refer to the Constitution. Read it and see if what we are doing is in accordance with the Constitution. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights are what all of our laws are based on.

4. I know it is corny but always treat others how you would want them to treat you.

5. If you see an injustice speak up! When good men and women remain silent is when evil men/women control. This is what happened in Germany. The good Germany did not speak up until it was too late. This is also happening in this country. We are doing things we know are wrong. Torture, not caring for our needy, killing for no good reason. In so doing we have become what we claim to be fighting. The people who tried to speak up were attacked (Verbally) and silenced. Even when we KNEW our government broke laws and acted in opposition of the Constitution, we did NOTHING! It is the duty for every American to speak up if they see there government is acting in opposition to our Constitution.

Always make sure you read what you are voting on. Many laws that were passed recently (The last 7 years) our representatives stated they "Did not know that certain things were in there when they signed it into law". They did not read what they were signing! We need to make sure we do. If it is in legalese that you do not understand ask someone you know. (An attorney,Law student, or Parent). Then when we find out our Representatives are not representing us because they do not even bother reading what they are signing, vote them out of office.

WE have let this administration lie and cover up things we would not let any other President do the same. We let him systematically destroy our Constitution and bill of rights. We willingly let them take away our rights in the name of terrorism. Mainly because we did not think it through that the same things they wanted to have the ability to do to capture "terrorists" (Which by the way, look into the actual conviction rate of those held as "terrorists". Most were not convicted because we had no grounds to actually charge them.

We have become the bully of the world. We broke treaties we signed. We thumbed our noses at the United Nations. We acted arrogantly and took the good will of the entire world after 9/11 and turned it into hatred of the US because of actions.

It is time to become a respected nation again. To do so we need to follow our Constitution and Bill of Rights. We need to restore the courts to an equal balance-not a group that do not even bother to follow the laws they are sworn to
uphold.

Last but not least We need to get out of Iraq now. We are killing our soldiers for no good reason. We are leaving our youth (That is You!) with a huge debt they must pay off with interest!!!!

Make sure you are an activist! Even though you cannot vote yet, that does not mean you cannot write your Congressman/woman. E-mail them on issue that are important to you! Then you will grow up to be an informed and educated voter who will vote responsibly and not just be a follower like everyone else whether it is right or not.

Hope this helps

I don't like him very much at all. I don't like that he did not get his facts straight about going into Iraq. He just took the information he received and never verified it. In turn he has had to change the whole reason for being in Iraq in the first place. He has not caught OBL yet. He thinks the U.S. Constitution in just a "piece of paper" where i was a hold that "piece of paper" very high and i believe in it. He does not take any accountability for any action that takes place in his cabinet he just toss others under the bus instead. I could go on about things but i will leave it at that.
I did like some of his ideas like his immigration plan and he has created jobs.

For the same reasons some people don't support Bush.

He was elected into office by popular vote - obviously other people have different viewpoints from yours and your daughters. Nothing wrong with that, but that's the honest answer.

One primary reason for me: He was the only Presidential candidate that was being realistic enough to make the hard, unpopluar decisions during a difficult time for America.

So far, there have been no futher days since 9/11 where thousands of us have died from fascist Islamic Fundamentalists that think every one of us needs to be destroyed because we are evil and sinful - he is doing one thing right at least.

Look at results and reality and not political pandering. If you are free to criticize him (and I do for many of his policies and actions), you should also keep an open enough mind to see that there have been some good things too.

And that is the primary job of government - to provide defense for it's citizens like me, you and your daughter.

Everything else is just politics.

planksheer: Are you sure you really have it all figured out so well? And that you really have everyone else figured out so well? I've read a book or two in my time too and even taken a few psychology courses. But I've also been there and faced the reality of this world too. I've volunteered to serve in the military in peace-time and war-time and under more than one president. I do not like war, nor do I like politicians. But being self-righteous to the degree you are only makes you blind and closed-minded, not intelligent.

I think its about the myth of GWB.
As one of the stories in Boccacio's DECAMERON went, a person of poor ethics and a questionable past, could be perceived and misinterpreted by others who needed to believe in something -
Bush's supporters project their own longings onto GWB and identify with the image, not the substance of the man.
A number of them have what I would characterize as sympathetic tendencies to authoritarian and simplistic leaders.
Bush serves this purpose.
And for all I know it maybe a hardwired genetic tendency to gravitate towards
someone who purports to be a militaristic person of action.
Some of his support is fear based - coming from a deep rooted insecurity of being harmed by some extra-national " other " or " islamofascist" .
A juvenile person with little capability to see beyond the myth and image of a " great" leader tends to blindly support Bush as well. These people also think the ends justify the means.

The people that support Bush, mostly dittoheads, live in fear of being hurt. They hide under the bed when Bush raised the terror alert in the 2004 pre-election. They saw Bush as a big mommy that would protect them from the boogie man. Bush and the PNAC group plays them like a fiddle. Sad to see such cowards in the US. The lines 'land of the free, home of the brave' does not apply to the Bush followers.

He's a moral man who is doing what he feels is right for the nation. I honestly don't understand why liberals hate him so much. What has he done for you to hate him so much? The economy is as good or better than it was with Clinton, even after the devastating effects of 9/11. Your taxes were cut. We're taking the fight to the terrorists and we haven't been attacked since. Clinton let the terrorists bomb the WTC in '93, bomb the USS Cole, and bomb countless US embassies and never did anything about it. I just don't see how you can't support someone who's policies have aided the economy, protected you and your 12-yr old and isn't corrupt like your favorite President Clinton.
