The PS/2 port is round, while the serial port is a 9-pin. rounded rectangle. Every PC has one of the serial ports. Check your BIOS setup to make sure the port is enabled.

For best compatibility, you can use a USB mouse. It would be recognized as soon as you plug it in. The USB mouse would be faster than a serial mouse too. However, if you already have a serial mouse and the port is enabled, use that for now.

A serial mouse has a connector that looks allot like an AGP connector. I doubt that your computer has a "serial mouse" port. I would try a USB mouse. If your system has USB 2.0 it should work just fine.

It sounds like your computer is no longer supporting the PS2 mouse port. This could just be a bios setting problem, but more then likely the port no longer works.

Serial is old, don't use it, and your PS/2 port is dead. Buy a USB mouse instead and go for the optical version.

the 1st one is clearly extra appropriate!! the 2d seems extra of like a buisness workstation charging a top rate for its small form ingredient and quite a number of alternative applications that are being presented with it, nevertheless they are not of lots use.
