Avast is better than AVG which has lower detection than Avast, AVG is well known for missing more than if finds.

Paid for AV's are better than free AV's for many reasons, if you look at Nod32, its light, run in the back ground; a lot faster than AVG will ever be & is well known for not missing virus even in the wild.

For your anti-virus needs, I would suggest Avira AntiVir® PersonalEdition Classic. It has excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate that is better than most "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is light on using your computer's resources. And did I mention that it's free!

Download here:

BTW, Avoid the free version of an anti-virus called AVG, it is wildly popular, but it has horrible virus detection capibilities.

Enjoy!

Avast and AVG work just a well as any you can buy. Do not fear them. I have used AVG for many years and have never had a problem that it couldn't repair.

I realize that these free programs are not suites and only preform one operation, IE, they remove viruses. For spyware I have always use both Adaware and Spybot. Not only do these programs function well, I figure I have saved well over $1000. Money that was better spent on upgrades for my system and software like Adobe Photoshop, etc.

It works well but I find that the newest version uses a lot of RAM. Avira is much better for free in my opinion. If your buying a security system Norton works great.

You get what you are paying for,if you gonna pay then pay for something decent like Nod32 or Kaspersky...also F-Secure is very good choice.

Avast.
AntiVir.
AVG.

I use BitDefender now http://www.bitdefender.com/no/view/Download-Free-Products.html
Normally i use Norton Internet Security.

**NOTE**
Only have one antivirus program and one firewall installed on your computer.
Anti-Adware, Spyware, Malware are okey to have more off.
