I know it is the best record in the NFL. But in MLB? shouldnt the wild card team hit the road? Or is it according to who has the better record?

Each league has three division champions and one wildcard team. The division winners are seeded 1-2-3 based upon season record, with statistical tiebreakers used if necessary. The wildcard team is seeded #4 regardless of its record.

The 3-of-5 Division Series uses a 2-2-1 format with the higher ranked seeds getting the Game 1 homefield. The teams are paired 1-4 and 2-3, with one exception: if the #1 team and the wildcard are from the same division, the pairings are 1-3 and 2-4.

First team to win three games advances.

The Division winner with the best record plays the Wild Card Winner unless they are from the same division, then the Wild Card winner would play the second best division winner....then the other two teams play each other. Home Field advantage goes to the divisional winner with the better record preventing the Wild Card winner from holding home field advantage.

The Wildcard team plays the team with the best record outside of their division. That is why the Yankees will play the Indians reguardless whether or not Boston finishes with a better record then Indians.

There are three divisions in each league. The teams that win their division, plus the other team with the best percentage are the four teams that enter the playoffs.
