Whilst driving the car today I felt a tickle, when I looked in the mirror, there was a money spider in my hair, it eventually crawled down my left arm and onto the gear stick of the car. This was quite a long journey and I was wondering if anybody knows how did the old wives tale regarding money spiders and money came about.

Jolly Roger - if it had been much bigger than a money spider, I would have probably crashed the car in panic!

Money spiders (in the United Kingdom, the name stems from the superstition that if such a spider is seen running on you, it has come to spin you new clothes, meaning financial good fortune).--http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money_spider

Also, according to--http://onespiritx.tripod.com/magick18.htm
Spider-is a symbol of--Master Weaver, Weaver of the Web of Fate, Wisdom, Creativity, Divine Inspiration, Shape shifting, Understanding the Patterns of Illusion, Female Energy for the Creative Force of Life, Creative, Connecting the Past with the Future, Creating Possibilities, Weaver of the Primordial Alphabet.

And according to old wives tales in other parts of Europe--a spider brings news--the colouring of the spider and the time of a day the spider is seen is important, for it further foretells the nature of the coming news.
In addition, left side of the body denotes future and the female energies, thus, soon you'll receive news about or from a woman.
I hope it helps.

There is a money spider, Daddy Longlegs, spinning a web between my monitor and computer. I always leave him and his kin alone and am still waiting for the money. Nice historical answers here. My mother always said it was bad luck to kill one, no back up to mother's explanation...what is, is.
