It will not help her sleep. It does not cause drowsiness as a side effect either. It is used to stop stomach acid production. It is effective for reflux. Unless she has heartburn or an ulcer, she doesn't need it.

Omeprazole (or Prilosec) is an acid reflux medicine. Your grandmother will feel better and rest easier if she has problems with the constant heartburn feeling when she is laying down.
Another way to address this is to prop her up a bit and avoid eating 15 min. before laying down.
One of the side effects of Omeprazole is that it can prevent you body from using the other medicine that you are taking when they are taken around the same time frame (say, and hour or two). Comfort is going to be the most important part of her resting.
Having said all of that...you might look for a nice geriatric doctor (doc for the elderly). Most of her problems should now be revolving around 'quality of life' during this stage of her life.

the only way it will make her sleep if she had acid reflux and it was the only thing that keeps her awake at night I'm afraid. I would see if she can go back to doctor and ask about why she was prescribed it if she doesn't have acid reflux.
