If I install Windows Vista, will all of my programs be deleted? Like Photoshop, iTunes, Quicktime, etc? Because I bought Quicktime and Photoshop... and I really don't want those to go away.

And what about the documents? Will they go too?

Vista requires the formatting (erasing) of all previous stored data. That includes programs and data. Data is relatively easy to back up, just copy to a DVD or CD or another hard drive. Programs are more difficult, as they have components in various places that only your current O/S knows about. If you purchased Quicktime and Photoshop online, there should be installers you can download that will be a trial/demo, but when you enter your registration code or serial number, it will become a full functioning product. If you installed from CD, then you can just install from CD on your new operating system.

Hi, it depends on the type of installation. If it is an upgrade disc then no they won't be deleted. Just check using Windows Vista upgrade advisor from http://www.microsoft.com which programs are compatible and the ones that aren't will have to be reinstalled. Most programs should work though. Your documents and settings won't be deleted though.
If u have a new installation disc then yes everything will be deleted and it will be a completely fresh start. Just back up ur data first.
Good Luck!

Vista has an option to upgrade your existing Windows. So nothing will go away.

Keep in mind, however, that some applications may not work with Vista. You'd have to check with each manufacturer so to see if they will and/or if there is an upgrade or patch avialable. By now, most major apps will work with Vista or have a patch to make them work.

Microsoft also has an "Upgrade Advisor" application that you can run on your computer BEFORE you upgrade. It will identify possible problems that you may have but not ALL of them.

If you do a "clean" install, then yes, it will wipe out everything and all will need to be reinstalled. As for your documents, you "should" have them backed up. If you don't, then do so and after you have installed the new operating system, you can just copy and paste all of your personal data to the new system.

The already installed 3rd party softwares won't work. All your documents stay intact.
