My best advice for you is to hire a plumbing contractor that specializes with gas line installation. They will repair or replace the lines.
Don't mess gas systems if you do not know what your doing. There is a real danger of an explosion and fire.
Be safe call an expert.

If you think there is a gas leak, contact the gas company. They have the equipment to determine if there is a leak. If they find one, they will shut off the gas and you (your mom) will have to hire a pro to find and eliminate the leak. Carbon Monoxide is a dangerous gas, as it has no odor and can kill within 15 minutes with a concentration of less than 100 parts-per-million. It is unlikely you have a gas leak AND CO leak, however your gas company should have a CO detector they can bring. 7 PPM is an acceptable level of CO in the atmosphere; most homes have less than 3PPM. If you feel there is a hazard, have it checked out.

natural gas runs on low pressure
go to hardware store and get parts , so you can use bicycle pump and pressurize system
it may be that you can hear the leak or you may have to use bubbles,,dishsoap and water,, check on all connections
it is not the gas company's job to find your leak,, you can hire a plumber,,fact is ,if you are in Texas , all you can work on is the house you own and 'LIVE" in,,
check out your laws,,think of this,
, you work on gas,, house blows up, 1 renter dead,, other renter gets a good attorney

When I had gas, I had a similar leak. And I noticed the man putting something that looked like bubble solution around where they joints were in the pipes. Where it makes bubbles is the leak.

You would need a plumber for this. They would have to come & test the line & would be able to repair or replace the pipe for you.
