what type of dvd do i need to burn MPEG files?

Is it dvd-r, because when i use a dvd-r it says insert empty cd

I'VE GOT NERO VISION,
ON NERO VISION I CLICKED ON DVD-VIDEO AND I WANT IT TO PLAY ON MY DVD.

Do you HAVE a DVD burner ?
What software you trying to burn with ?
Are you trying to make a DVD to play on a standalone DVD player ?

If you have DVD burner, make sure you told the software you want to make a DVD not a CD !

depends if you have cd option highlighted, on nero it gives you a choice of cd and dvd, ensure you originally choose dvd, you can burn mpeg straight to cd as well tho.
