Several hundred dollars for a phone which will be obsolete in a year is a rip off.) Anyhow, it's your money and you can spend it how you like. You'll need to make sure the salesclerk knows you already are aware you can't sign a service contract. It has to be activated and that does require a contract with the company that activates it. So, yeah, you can buy a phone, but you still have to have an adult sign you up for activating it.

yes you can buy a sidekick by yourself. but u will be unable to even turn it on unless you have a plan. probably save your moeny and buy it all at once to save time. no reason to carry a useless thing.
