Somehow you have ignored the history of the most populous nation in the world - China. China's civil war began in 1927, and lasted throughout the war against Japan (1937 - 1945) and continued until 1949. I would call any conflict that lasts 22 years and affects the lives of hundreds of millions of people (even today - see the Taiwan/China issue) a major conflict.

The answers here are great. There was major wars in the 1920's but now in the European theater. The British lost one third of the male population up to the age of 37. Ufff that takes a while to get back. Think of all those guys running at the barbed wire and getting shot by the German machine guns.

That depends on what you man by "major conflicts".

During the 20s, there was a war here as Ireland was fighting for independence against the british which eventually ended with the creation of two irish nations, the Republic and Ulster. Turkey went to war for Independence as well and the USSR and Poland went to war.

Within the US, people were more concerned with prohibition, the rise of communism amongst it's citizens and the KKK was at the peak of it's membership.

WWI ended and was considered "The War to End All Wars". Most countries were pretty sick of war after WWI and were too busy rebuilding to start another one.
