At Lincoln Park Zoo in Oklahoma City, in the late forties and early fifties when I was a child, I often saw a chimp who smoked. People kept giving him lighted cigarettes to see the show. Later, I am pretty sure, that chimp died of lung cancer.

Yes, and they can die of tobacco related diseases too, just like humans.
