The same way you would care for any other body part. If uncircumcised, be sure to gently pull back the foreskin and clean.

If he's circumsized, after the first couple weeks, when you're done using the petrolium jelly on his peepee, you have to start pulling whats left of the foreskin back and gently wiping it with a baby wipe at every change. That foreskin will try to reattach to the head of the penis for the fist few months, and you have to keep up with it.

Again, this is after the wound has healed completely after the surgery.

People who tell you not to are people who either havent had circumsized sons, or else they dont care if their kid losing feeling in that area as a sexually active adult because the foreskin reattached to the sensitive head of the penis. Some times being mom means doing unpleasant things.

If it does reattach gently pull the skin back, it'll look red and maybe even bleed, and might be uncomfy for baby, but it not ssuper super painful, once you get it appart you'll have to wipe away the white piffly stuff that started growing in there.

Thats all it takes.

If your boy is circumcised the doctor should have told you what to do to take care of the sore spot. But if he isn't circumcised NEVER NEVER NEVER pull back the foreskin on an infant, it is still attached to the head of the penis and will cause your baby pain and distress. All you need to do at this stage is swirl some water around it at bath time and during nappy changes wipe all the wee and poop of as best as you can. I have a boy, he is not circumcised and I don't do anything to his willy apart from wash it in the bath and he is 10mo, I will ask the Doctor at his 12 mo vaccination when it is needed to clean under the foreskin.
