I just moved to a new apartment. It has an air conditioner which seems to be completely inside it. It is attached to an inner wall of the apartment instead of an external wall. I am old fashioned so I had not seen this before. I usually keep my windows closed and I would like to know if I am getting new oxygen or this AC is only cooling the air that is already inside the place. Thanks a lot.

In any case, is this something to be concerned about or the oxygen I get somehow when I open the door or occasionally open the window is enough to replace what's missing? I'm thinking it should not be a problem since I have been in apartments with no AC and windows closed all the time. Anyway, thanks for your feedback.

Air conditioners don't give you new oxygen--they only take the heat out of regular air. Oxygen is just a fraction of the air in any location. Some air conditioning units are designed to work as you described, but they do have to dump that heat out someplace. Either it's dumping the heat into one of your plenum or wall spaces or another room or the attic in your apartment, or it's ducting it someplace to release it. Also, it should have a condensate drain which is dripping the removed moisture into a sanitary line somewhere.

It must be vented out somewhere or the hot air would not have anywhere to go. therefore it must be taking in outside air somehow. relax you will have enough oxygen. if you are truly worried get some great plants . they give off oxygen.

Relax and enjoy your aircon! The unit will not remove or displace oxygen from your apartment.

It will be ejecting heat into your wall cavity, more than likely
