Bare with me here. Everyone seems to hate Belicheck... he's a jerk, not a happy guy, mean and treats people like crap, etc... etc... etc. The year Roger Maris went on to break Babe Ruth's homerun record all the same things were said about him and all because he didn't want to get all chummy with the media. Same thing with Belicheck... he doesn't give the media what they want so they trash the guy and make him look bad which in turn turns fans against him. The difference between Maris and Belicheck though is that with Maris even the hometown fans had turned against him. Patriots fans haven't turned against Bill... ya know why, because we know how he really is. He's always been someone to smile and sign autographs... he just doesn't like doing it in the glimmer of the media. He's a private guy who loves his sport, but likes to keep his personal life personal... just like Roger Maris.

And also put this into perspective... while in all reality Maris was a quiet caring family man... the man who was going for that record along with him that year, Mickey Mantle, was an alcoholic who cheated on his wife and ignored his kids... and the fans LOVED him... it's that everyone knew that was what was going on so it was ok. With Belicheck... even though he has had his indiscretions... but because he wanted to keep it quiet and refused to talk about it, people turned on him. People mess up and that's what he did... Mantle messed up all the time and the people loved the man... and I don't think Mantle was a bad guy... I think he was truly a good man... it's just he gave in to his surroundings and I think he always felt bad about that. Just like Belicheck does about that one time it happened with him. The guy loves football, he does love his family... I mean his 14 year old son is practically an assistant on the team... he just keeps things quiet... just like Maris.. live with it .

I am a Patriots fan that lives on the West coast. Belicheck is all about the game, and not about himself. He doesn't allow his team members to be that way either. I swear, I have never seen such whiners in my entire life, and I'm old. Sour grapes don't win super bowls, and neither does cheating. Talent does, and a good coach does. Personally, I prefer it when people jump all over the Patriots. Gets their dander up and they play even better. So all you Patriot haters, just keep spitting in the wind.

I don't hate Belicheck. He is handling this situation as well as can be done. He did back - he got his hand slapped. We all move on. There are different demands on a coach than those on a player so I don't think this is a good comparison. I think you can compare Maris to Bonds, but not to Belicheck.

You have got to be kidding me. How can you compare an ****** like Belicheater to great baseball legends like Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle? Mantle and Maris didn't cheat. Belichick did. Don't compare Belichick to Mantle and Maris. It is like comparing alcohol with motor oil.

I agree 100%. Just because Bill doesnt talk trash about the other teams so the media can muckrake it doesnt mean hes a bad guy, he just keeps it to himself. The guys obviously one of, if not THE greatest coach ever in any sport (xcept for Red Auerbach). He can be as quiet as he wants, because hes gonna have a HELL of a hall of fame induction speech.

If Belichick was not with the Patriots, and still won 3 Super Bowls, do you REALLY think that there is a team out there that would be stupid enough to PASS on having the chance to have him coach them?...Hmm...Falcons, Lions, Colts...CHARGERS?...NO WAY...
