I have had two episodes. One week ago and last night, I woke up with waves of abdominal pain. They would come and go and were pretty severe. For a moment, I thought we would have to go to the hospital. I was starting to think I was going into labor because the pain would come and go like contractions. Then, I went to the bathroom with diarrhea and felt better. This is my third child and I have never experienced anything like this before. Last week, I thought it may have been something I ate, but I didn't eat anything similar yesterday. The baby seems to be moving fine, a lot actually, and other than being tired, I feel pretty good today. Is this a symptom of something? Is it Braxton Hicks? False labor? My body playing tricks on me?

My body never wanted to fully dialate or "ripen" with my first two girls, either. (It always makes me laugh when they say ripen, like a persimmon) Maybe my body is just doing what it is supposed to do and getting ready. My dates don't really match up with the doctor's dates. I did drink a big old glass of milk before it happend last night but not last week. I drink milk all the time and I eat cheese and ice cream, too. It could have been the milk but I don't remember drinking milk last week before it happened. I guess I will just call my OB/GYN. I hate to call him on a Saturday and, you know, I am not nearly ready for this baby, yet. I have nothing ready and my house is a wreck. I guess I need to get on that, huh? Thanks for everyone's answers. I am having a hard time choosing the best because I got good info from everyone. I will get to that, too.

Dr. said it was probably colon cramps and not to get worried unless my uterus hardens up during the contractions or I get some sort of watery or bloody discharge. (Yuck!) May be a little stomach bug or just my body reacting to hormones.

I was always lactose intolerant when I was pregnant, it is to do with the increased levels of progesterone in your system which gets rid of the lactase in your bowels (gross I know) and you can't digest the lactose in milk and dairy products? It could be the cause. You do need to tell your health care provider about the diarrhoea. The waves of contractions would have been your bowel because it was upset, you have to be careful because too much diarrhoea can put you into labour, (don't freak out it needs to be a reasonable amount of diarrhoea). Keep an eye on what you eat and see if there is any correlation between particular food groups and the abdominal pain.
Good luck, hope the info helps.

This could be Braxton Hicks Syndrome or false labor. I had it my entire pregnancy, so much that I did not even know when I was in actual labor.

When I used to have periods, I always had diarrhea, so this could very well be related to early labor.

But if I were you, I would call and see my Ob. Gyn. You could be getting ready to deliver early.

i had the same thing for a number of weeks before my second child was born, it dilated me but only a small amount, after a few weeks of this i was so sleep deprived i begged them to induce me! they wouldn't though hehe, this can last for ages, i'm sorry to tell you mine went on for a month! she was 2 1/2 weeks over due and i was only 2 cm dilated by the time they finally induced me ( after stretching my cervix, doing the mucous plug thing and even breaking my waters!! she didn't want to come ;) the only thing that made her come was 3 hours on oxytocin drip.
so i guess you could be in labour or you could be in false labour, not very helpful of me but hope it helps to know there are others that have been through the same.
get your mid wife/doctor to check your contractions on the monitor next time it happens.

It sounds like braxtons, but maybe you should go to the hospital and get checked just in case.

It may just be your body preparing for the labour, and not even braxtons.

Maybe you have a stomach bug. It does happen during the change of seasons, even to pregnant girls.
