I guess you can say that I did that. I had a good job and a home. My parents health failed them and at all the same time found out that my boyfriend of 5 years was cheating on me. I left him and everything behind and moved home to be with my parents. I started here with Nothing and with a lot of hard work and determination, I have Made Something now, a happier life for myself! I have my own place again, it might be just a small 8' X 30' travel trailer to some folks, but it is my house and right next door to my parents.

Only in the kitchen. When my children were young I was quite adept at fabricating a meal from a little bit here and a little bit there. We ate a lot of breakfasts at dinnertime.

One of my favorites was fried cornmeal mush instead of pancakes, and French Toast was even cheaper.

YES WE ARE PROOF OF THIS.
We had nothing when we came on and now we have an upswelling of love, caring and warmth from our fellow seniors. Keep it up chookies, we may be retired to the hen house but we are NOT feather brained.

Of course, most women can. Check out the pantry and take a can of salmon and prepare a feast. Take an old dress or skirt and whip up a blouse or dress for a child.

I can take nothing, and with a few trips to Home Depot, a truck load from the Lumber company, and make plenty! Does that count?

single moms ALWAYS know how to do that, it's a survival thing...now I take discarded furniture/knicknacks and restore and paint them...I like the idea of giving a discarded thing a new chance to shine.

EDIT:dkgar,I lived in one of those with my daughter for about 6 months once;that was one of our most fun times.we were in a campground full of trees,a playground,a pool and other kids- right next to the wildlife park I worked in.those things aren't great for the long term, but they are good for short adventures!

Yep - I can take what many may consider a hovel and turn it into a palace with imagination, wit, flea markets, estate sales, and a large dose of decorating talent...:-) - 'trash to treasure'
