I've said this for a long time. There are more drinkers than smokers. I think alcohol is worse than smoking.....for obvious reasons. More tax money would be generated also. Good point!

The reason it's so much more expensive is indeed the taxation regime , however , there is also the generally agreed notion that taxes on Beer , Wine , Cigarettes and Spirits are "sin" taxes with any government looking to make a statement with regard public health , revenue creation etc. In Britain , the demand curve for beer is such that a small reduction in price would lead to many more units being sold , if any government then reduced tax it would lead to a greater indulgence or mor units sold . The Culture in Britain would be such that we'd not believe our luck and we'd get drunk to celebrate , European countries seem to have a more balanced approach to drink and its dangers .

Alcohol, of all kinds, already is taxed on a federal and state level and has been for a very long time.

They are already. Why do you think its illegal to make moonshine? It is because the government can't tax it. Thats why.

I think the government should ban them because of all the problems they have been causing us. For instance, drunk driving, cancer, liver problems. Down with beer! Up with soda!
