Can anyone reccomend a good but fairly cheap amplifer, my plan is to,

get an RCA cable with the 3.5mm jack into my PC sound card and the phono leads into an amplifier, then connect my Hi-Fi speakers to the amp.

As far as i know there:

Panasonic 100watt(MUSIC) @ 6 ohms each (Speakers.)
cheers

Hi keath. What is the highest price you can afford to pay? How many channels do you want?

EDIT.... Would something like this be ok?

You can pick up some very respectable amplifiers on eBay for a few tens of pounds.

Look for older British made ones rather than anything from the honourable far east. A Creek 4040 perhaps, or something by Cambridge Audio. The NAD 3020 was also very highly acclaimed.

Your good health.

if you are on a budget the cheapest way you can get great sound is with a type of 'digital' amp...anything based on the tripath chips usually sounds a WHOLE lot better than it should...the very cheapest is probably the Sonic Impact T-amp but my favourite is the Trends Audio TDA-10 (mine cost me about £50 and i use it to power £2,000 ribbon-tweetered, transmission line speakers(v nice if that sounds like Greek to u!).

like you i use my pc as a source and am VERY happy with the results (although a guest recently said he had heard a top-end BOSE system sound clearer EEEYOOO!!...i think he's deaf or thick and he's not being invited round again...anyway mine's still only half-built..o yeah - you can easily modify the TDA-10 and take an 'omg cheap cool thing' into an 'OMG listen to THAT but quite expensive thing'!!!!) google trendsaudio, sonic impact...and if you like messing with soldering irons check out michael.mardis.com(yes there really are two dots there) and audiomagus.com

if your speakers really are 6 ohm they'll go very loud with the TDA-10(and the sonic for that matter), don't be out off by the low watts(it's something tiny like 2*15watts rms) because as we ALL know...right...?watts have not alot to do with final sound pressure levels...right?)

here endeth the lesson. =P
