Hey-
I'm 26 and I had the same problem your daughter has! Since she's had her period for four years it "should" be regulated by now. My doctor prescribed a progesterone...recently I was prescribed one called Prometrium (my cycles were all messed up after going off the pill!)

Your daughter would take one of these for about seven days....a few days after going off your daughter will get her period. After doing this for a few months her cycles should get into a normal cycle. It worked for me!!

I took the Prometrium at night before I went to bed with a glass of water. That way I'd sleep through any possible side effects! After taking Prometrium consistently for a few months I got into a regular cycle. It worked great.

My current doctor always prescribes Prometrium for young girls like your daughter since it's a natural progesterone, just like your body produces!! I understand how frustrating it can be to always have irregular cycles...so it's great that you're looking out for your daughter! By taking care of it now, it will be much easier for your daughter now and later in life! :o)

Bring her in to see a doc. and ask about Prometrium. :o)

*I REALLY wouldn't recommend having her go on the pill. Her periods will be right back to irregular when she goes off...it's just a temporary fix!!

You should go to your Ob/Gyn & figure out why you don't have your period regularly. There can be several problems that are treatable. If you don't want to do that, just buy a fertility monitor at the drugstore & it will tell you when your peak ovulation times are. If you don't want to get pregnant, I would go on the pill. Don't take chances using nothing. You might be a good candidate for the pill anyway to help you become more regular with your menstrual cycles.

The birth control pill. It will straighten out her cycle within a few months, and do away with any cramps and nastiness having to do with periods.

It's really nothing to worry about unless she has too many periods. That is, unless she's sexually active. And then the pill is an even better idea.

Give it time - her hormones are still unsettled - the important thing is she gets her period even if she skips a month or two. If by the time she's 16 or 17 even her cycle hasn't settled down birth control pills are usually prescribed to make her cycle tow the line. But it's really nothing to worry about.

Hm - lucky girl - well she's still a teen so it could be common. However there can be underlying conditions causing this like PCOS (but it has other symptoms). Take her to the gynaecologist if you're really worried, they might put her on birth control pills or something depending on the cause and if they think treatment is necessary.
