Its got 2gb of ram not 1gb.

YUP, it should fit the x16 PCIe slot. BUT take note that the 7900 series consumes about double the power of your current Geforce 6600. Your PC's power supply may have difficulty powering the Geforce 7900. You might need a power supply upgrade.

That's a micro-ATX case.

I did something similar with my old HP (same case).

It will most likly overheat. If it doesn't overheat it will hit the hardrive(s).

If you already have it, try it out, i mean, why not, right?

If you still want to upgrade consider:
ATi 1650XT/2600XT (smaller, cheaper, still fast)
7600GT/8600GT (smaller, cheaper, still fast)

The 8600GTS would be your best altenative for a small card, but it's kind of expensive, and makes shoehorning that 7900 sound more attractive.
