Brooke, in the usa theres no after market pipes for my 250cc Virago. I cut part the baffles out with a torch. DONOT PUNCH holes as others suggest. Both exhaust are joined together with a metal chamber. On the back cylinder it's a fake pipe that you see thats chrome.
Nice black n white cat on your pics.

Those Virago250s are nice little bikes but personally I wouldn't mess with it ,you soon will outgrow it and move up to a bigger bike that you can put some nice sounding Vance and Hines pipes on , I know you like the louder sound as most people do but if you go to sale people will know you messed with it ,If you must get louder pipes then check out a bike night somes wheres and see if any body else had it done on theres ,Most people are Happy to start it up so u can hear how it sounds ,Have a professional do it !

If it did not come with a kick start, there is no place to install one. You would need a splined shaft coming out of the case to install the kick starter. Pay more attention and you wont have that problem. Try bump starting it. A twin 250 would be easy to kick start if it had a kicjk starter. How did you leave the lights on? The are hooked up through the ignition. If you left the lights on, you left the ignition on. TURN THE BIKE OFF AT THE IGNITION SWITCH (where the key goes) NOT AT THE BARS

Don't do it. If you want a loud bike, waste your money on a Harley.

I had an '83 920 Virago and had to replace the exhaust as it had almost rusted through. I put on aftermarket pipes that made the bike louder. The carbs had to be re-jetted and it never ran the same again. It always backfired a lot on deceleration. I rode the bike another 6 years and 50,000 miles, but it never ran the same again.

I know others who have Japanese bikes, who got very tired of their loud aftermarket pipes. I ride a 1400 Suzuki Intruder with the original pipes on it. It's nice, smooth and quiet. I can hear my iPod just fine with it.

A 250 isn't supposed to be a loud bike. Enjoy it for it's performance, not for the way it sounds.

You are not going to get a deep sound from a 250. But if you still want to make it louder, you could get new pipes or just take the baffles out of the old ones. They are probably welded in but you could just find something to punch a hole through them. Be prepared to rejet your carb, though. As far as backfiring..that's normal. A well-tuned bike should probably backfire at times when decelerating.

That one guy doesn't know what he is talking about. Slash cut pipes? That is just the style of the end of the pipe. I think he means straight pipes. Some people call them drag pipes but that is incorrect as well. Drag pipes are just mounted lower (hence, they drag on the ground).

swap out the mufflers for a better sounding aftermarket set. remember that you will need to change to a high volume air cleaner set up and also, if it is carberated, you will have to rejet it to run richer and if it is fuel injected, you will have to purchase something like a "power commander' or vance and hines "fuel pak" to re map your fuel injection to run richer. Changing the mufflers and intake cause the bike to run leaner, this causes the engine to run hotter, causes a loss in performance and can damage the motor. Doing it right will not only make it sound better, but make it run better and gaing horsepower and torque. Making those changes on my latest bike gained me 29 horsepower and increased the torque to 90 ft pounds.

First, your bike should not backfire (too rich) or pop (too lean, which is actually worse) ever. If you decide to modify your old pipes or buy aftermarket ones you will need to rejet the carbs and adjust them properly. Which should be done by someone who has a knowledge of carbs and jetting.

get a bigger scoot. a louder 250 doesnt look good. there's no replacement for displacement for more power.
