The logic behind this question is Britain should be punished if it does not use her special relationship with the US to influence the US to stop the Iraq occupation.
NOW , apply this logic into China 2008 Olympics , western politicans have been advocating the boycott of Beijing 2008 Olympics if China failed to stop the Darfur killings and recently , the troubles in Burma . Can you detect some kinds of double standards / talks in this logic / argument ?

Boycott of an Olympics is bad for sports, it must be separate from politics.

Well a good example of what your talking about happened in the 1936 Olympics.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that for all of us hind site is 20/20 and here is why.

For two weeks in August 1936, Adolf Hitler's Nazi dictatorship camouflaged its racist, militaristic character while hosting the Summer Olympics. Soft-pedaling its anti-Semitic agenda and plans for territorial expansion, the regime exploited the Games to bedazzle many foreign spectators and journalists with an image of a peaceful, tolerant Germany.

Having rejected a proposed boycott of the 1936 Olympics, the United States and other western democracies missed the opportunity to take a stand that — some observers at the time claimed — might have given Hitler pause and bolstered international resistance to Nazi tyranny. With the conclusion of the Games, Germany's expansionist policies and the persecution of Jews and other “enemies of the state” accelerated, culminating in World War II and the Holocaust.

Yes what your talking about maybe a double standard to some but I think everyone knows were the middle east is headed today with most of radical Islam looking for the reappearance of the Twelfth Imam just like Hitler's pure nation. Sometimes just like in your case we have to stand for what’s right and just in the world. I cant think of something better than to preserve the rights you and I have to have this discussion. What they do not have is FREEDOM of EXPRESHION and FREEDOM of SPEECH.

Let me see if I can grasp this warped logic,,,,,You want to protest the London Olympics because we tried to fix a place like Burma but we should not protest the China Olympics because China won't do anything?

Don't you think that is a little bit of the old "Damned if you do and damned if you don't."? Either you are for trying to fix these countries or you are not. You can't have it both ways or you become an irrelevant shrew shrieking to shriek.

To answer the question: No. Boycotting the Olympics has nothing to do with the Iraq war. The war is necessary. People who dont think so really should stop wasting their time bitching to everyone else about it. It does nothing. Serves no purpose. Do you think the government cares if people oppose it? Thats why they're in charge, not you and I !!

although you make a good case for the Similarities just remember the differences too! We elect our reps China does not. You have a level of say in policies while the Chinese do not. Can you match the peace marches in London versus those in Burma? How many Londoner's were shot at close range in the last Protest?..................

Are you really as dumb as you sound? We are not occupying Iraq. We are there providing security and would love to come home. The government of Iraq is begging us to stay. Learn your topic. If you had a brain you would understand that these are two different issues.

No, the war has nothing to do with the Olympics. Just because all the other countries pussed out on the war, doesn't mean the US should.
