The oil light measures oil pressure, so either you have a faulty pressure sensor or you really have no or low oil pressure. Low oil pressure can be caused by plugged oil pick up screen or bad oil pump. Its something I would have checked because an engine will seize without adequate oil pressure.

If the car is a petrol version with a paper type oil filter element (with a black plastic cover between the exhaust downpipe and gearbox) the element may be faulty. There are 2 types of housing, if yours is the later type then read on. On the early housing the cover is approx 4 inches tall, the later type is approx 2 inches tall. Remove the cover (27mm socket needed), remove the paper/plastic element from the cover and look down the hole in the centre of it. There should be a plastic cross in the centre firmly attached, if this cross has snapped away from the element the spring loaded 1 way valve on the aluminium part of the housing (the bit the cover screws onto) remains open and the oil pressure switch won't sense any pressure. Retighten the plastic cover to 30Nm. I can't think why the light would come on when pressing the brake if the level is ok. Possibly the car jerking forward is upsetting the oil in the filter housing.

These guys are all wrong. If the oil light comes on when you apply the brakes, it's not oil pressure or a bad sensor. You probably have a bad ground connection between the engine and the chassis.

Try fitting a new oil pressure switch.

I hope you checked it came up to the 'full' mark on the dipstick. It sound as though the oil is surging away from the pick up.
