It really depends on the day, some days i say great and i really am, and other days i say exhausted and i really am, but then there are those days i say fine, and i really want to say, well, my bills are behind, and my husbands hours have been temporally cut, and my kids are being whiny brats, and my dog ran off the property today, and got picked up by the dog catcher (only happened once so far) and then i get a $75 fine, i spilled my pop all over me after i got a shower, i hit my mailbox while i was trying to get the mail, and my water heater broke, and the kids broke a window while playing base ball, and i also had a flat tire but other then all that i am ok, what about you?? but i think unloading on them like that when they were just trying to be polite is just not right, and i cant bring my self to do it YET!!!!

I say, "I'm doing okay".
My husband died 9 months ago.
My best girlfriend died of pancreatic cancer a year ago.
My sister had a malignant lump removed from her breast 3 mo. ago. Had radiation treatments. She's doing okay now.
One of my dear cousins has cancer throughout her body..had her voice box removed 2 wks. ago.
My 89 yr. old Mom (sharp as a tack) is having excruciating pain in her back & leg.
(Life is a saga sometimes, huh?)
So, the reason I say I'm okay is because compared to other loved ones I'm healthy, have the necessities I need in life. I'm okay.
(although I can't bring myself to say, "I'm fine or I'm very well."

I would like to say ''I am going through a period where I'm emotionally shut, so I really couldn't give you now a real answer that involves how I'm feeling''

I'm alive, I still draw breath, What right do I have to complain?
I understand your candor. I don't think any of us really want to hear your problems right now....
I mean to say if you asked me nicely, "Can I cry on your shoulder, would you be my vent(sounding board)? I'd listen, because I'm nice that way...
Some of us would listen, some of us would tell you where to go because we have our own problems.
Good luck

i think the "hello, how arre you today" is a casual remark so its not necessary to answer it seriously, its just a way of breaking the ice.

It depends on who is asking. Sometimes I want to tell them to take a hike.
