When a man "makes love" to a woman he ususally inserts his penis into her vagina. There is a lot of kissing and touching before and after, but that is the central aspect of it.

Making love is having sex with someone you care deeply about. It's not just sex it's sex which connects a couple together in such a loving way that they feel as one and are lost with the ecstasy of their emotions not just the physical excitement which sex brings.
When you are in a relationship you can be making love one day and then having sex another. Making love basically is showing how much you love one another whilst having sex and sex is just fulfilling your sexual desire.

to make love is to have sex, but phrased as make love it would mean that it's not meaningless sex. sex with sum1 u love i guess
